About the Opportunity

Our client is seeking an experienced Alcohol and Other Drug (AOD) Practitioner to join their dedicated team at Christchurch Men’s Prison. This role is part of a holistic health and wellbeing programme aimed at supporting individuals affected by problematic AOD use, within a multidisciplinary environment that values cultural safety and inclusivity.
  • Facilitate educational and therapeutic group sessions within the prison setting.
  • Develop tailored treatment plans and assessments to meet individual client needs.
  • Collaborate within a multidisciplinary team, including clinical, peer support, and cultural staff.
  • Apply a kaupapa Māori approach to ensure culturally responsive care, underpinned by Te Tiriti o Waitangi principles.
  • Use a strengths-based framework to deliver elective topics and therapeutic activities.
What You’ll Bring
  • Ideally registered or working towards registration with an allied health profession (e.g., Social Work, OT, NZAC, DAPAANZ).
  • Significant knowledge and experience in Matauranga Māori models of practice, tikanga Māori, and te reo Māori, with a commitment to cultural safety.
  • Strong organisational and teamwork skills.
  • A non-judgmental, empathetic approach to supporting tangata whaiora.
  • Familiarity with Te Tiriti o Waitangi and its application within the AOD and health settings.
