About the Organisation

  • Our client has been at the heart of providing exceptional Palliative Care services to those living with terminal or life limiting illnesses for nearly 50 years. 
  • They are unique in that the Hospital Palliative Care team is based out of the Hospital, but directly employed by the local Hospice, allowing for a consultative and collaborative approach across services.  
  • This integration fosters a consultative approach, allowing collaboration across hospital teams while bringing a hospice ethos to care delivery.
About the Job

0.8 FTE, 32 hours per week. Part of Leadership team, reporting to the Director of Nursing & Clinical Support Services. Based in the Hospital Palliative Care Team, supported by two Clinical Nurse Specialists and a Senior Medical Officer.
Play a pivotal role in delivering consultative palliative care services. Key responsibilities include:
  • Support and mentor hospital teams through education, clinical leadership, and collaborative care planning.
  • Provide advanced clinical expertise and consultancy for patients with palliative care needs.
  • Offer comprehensive assessments, care planning, and evidence-based interventions to enhance patient outcomes and reduce inequalities in access.
  • Support and mentor hospital teams through education, clinical leadership, and collaborative care planning.
  • Contribute to clinical governance and represent palliative care at various leadership forums.
  • Act as an advocate for patients and their families/whānau while upholding Te Tiriti o Waitangi and promoting cultural safety.
This role blends clinical and non-clinical responsibilities, including participation in education, professional development, and quality improvement initiatives. You’ll also have access to a dedicated workspace for non-clinical tasks, supporting focus and reflection.

About You

You are a compassionate and experienced Nurse Practitioner who thrives in a consultative and collaborative environment. You bring:
  • Current registration with the Nursing Council of New Zealand in the Nurse Practitioner Scope of Practice.
  • Expertise in palliative care (specialist palliative care experience is highly desirable).
  • Advanced clinical skills, including comprehensive assessment and diagnostic reasoning.
  • Proven ability to mentor, lead, and educate across diverse teams.
  • A commitment to collaboration, cultural safety, and person-centered care.
Your expertise will help shape palliative care services for patients, their whānau, and the wider healthcare community.
